Getting Paid Your Money

Make sure you know who’s paying the bill.
We explore six ways to make sure you know who is paying the bill, if you don’t find out who is meant to be paying the bill it leaves the account open for dispute.

Some points to remember when dealing with your customers
  1. Obtain both names of persons responsible for the account; this is important if you are dealing with a child or partner.  You never now when a relationship will go pair shaped, and you are left with your customers arguing over who is paying you.  (Believe me this is not unusual)
  2.  Get postal, residential, work and email addresses for both parties, residential addresses are better than postal.  (You never know when you may need to drop in for friendly cup of tea!!!).
  3. When asking for phone numbers make sure you get both mobile and home phone numbers.    Land lines are preferable as mobiles have become so disposable these days and generally people tend to keep their landlines for the internet.
  4. Obtain a Personal guarantee, particularly on large jobs such as construction sights or jobs that have a high value.
  5. Get the parties responsible for paying the account to sign that the information is true and correct and acknowledge that they are responsible for the account.  This can be a simple clause on your quote or client work sheet.
  6. Request from the customer how they will be paying for the account, direct debit, eftpos, cash, cheque, money order, bank transaction.  Better still give them your options, that way you remain in control.
The above information can all be collected on a simple form.
